ABSTRACT
Cardiac tamponade is a medical emergency, characterized by elevated intrapericardial intrapericardial pressure in space, due to
an increase in volume (usually liquid) which determines compression of the heart cavities decreased diastolic filling, leading to a
significant decrease in cardiac output. The etiology may be variable among the most frequent include pericarditis, uremia,
hypothyroidism, trauma, cardiac surgery and other inflammatory and non inflammatory diseases. The aim of this paper is to
describe the case of a patient who developed cardiac tamponade, review its pathogenesis, clinical diagnosis, hemodynamic and
the use of transthoracic echocardiography.
