ABSTRACT
Temporal lobe encephaloceles are pathological herniations of temporal brain paranchyma through a skull base defect, that can be congenital or acquired. They are of low incidence and only a few cases reported in the literature in comparison of encephaloceles in the middle ear and tegmen timpani. The diagnosis is of one of exclusion and is confirmed on the radiological bases. Clinically it present has a hedache, epilepsy of the temporal lobe, cerebrospinal fluid fistula and clinical and subclinical meningitis has infections in the middle ear. The management of this pathology is surgical, consisting inf the resection of the encephalocele and repairing the middle cranial defect. In this paper we do a review of the temporal fossa encephalocele and a case report of a left anteromedial temporal encephalocele.
