ABSTRACT
lntroduction. Chronic gastritis is a common condition multiple cause, with Helicobacter pylori and NSAIDs, the major etiological factors. In relation to diagnosis divergent concepts exist among clinicians, endoscopists and pathologists, because of poor correlation between the presence of symptoms, endoscopic findings and histopathological description. Aim. Analyze the endoscopic histopathologic correlation in various types of chronic gastritis. Results. We analyzed 121 cases with a diagnosis of chronic gastritis. From the endoscopic standpoint were detected: nonspecific gastritis 62.8%, 23.9% antral follicular gastritis, multifocal atrophic pangastritis and 9% body atrophic gastritis 4.12 %. Regarding histopalógicos findings demonstrated: nonspecific gastritis 35.4%, follicular gastritis 34.7%, 19.4% diffuse corporal gastritis, atrophic gastritis 1.6% and 8.2% normal mucosa. In 53% of all cases were detected mainly in Helicobacter pylori gastritis and follicular non specific. The correlation between endoscopic histopathologic diagnosis was high, with 0.3474 (p = 0.005). Conclusions. Chronic gastritis was more common in women. The variety was the most frequent endoscopic nonspecific, followed by the follicular and the most common histopathological finding was follicular gastritis followed by the diffuse form. In more than half of the cases was present Helicobacter pylori. lt showed a high correlation between endoscopic findings and histological analysis. A biopsy is needed to establish the definitive diagnosis of chronic gastritis and histological variety.REFERENCES
