ABSTRACT
Introduction. Most of the questionnaires used to assess nasal symptoms in allergic rhinitis evaluate their impact over quality of life. There is a questionnaire that standardizes symptoms measuring, which can make easier the evaluation of different therapies from a patient point of view. Material and methods. An observational, analytical, prospective, cross sectional, open label study was conducted to identify the magnitude of nasal symptoms in patients with allergic rhinitis, using a validated questionnaire to evaluate the frequency and severity of nasal symptoms. The study variables were nasal symptoms in allergic rhinitis. The distribution of the severity mark was identified in the sample, and standard deviation (S. D.) and 95% confidence intervals (95% C. l.) for means were calculated. Results. 76 patients were evaluated, aged 1 to 55 years (mean 19.57, S. D. ± 14.34). Sixty seven patients had nasal breathing disturbances (88.2%, 95% C. I. 80.9 95.5). Nasal symptoms had a mean mark of 6.26 (S. D. ± 2.09); interquartilic range was 5 to 8 points, with a median of 6. Discussion. Nasal obstruction accounted for the greatest proportion of nasal symptoms, followed by rhinorhea, pruritus and sneezes.
