ABSTRACT
Introduction. Breastfeeding is currently considered the preferred method of infant feeding. The World Health Organization and the Health Department promotes breastfeeding for at least six months. Objective. To report the experience of breastfeeding’s clinic at the Medica Sur Hospital from 1999 to 2008. Material and methods. Information was collected from questionnaires administered to mothers who receive advice on breastfeeding clinic, filled out by the three advisors and specialists in the field during the period of January 1999 to December 2008. Results.13,418 patients were assisted, 90% received advice on breastfeeding. Maternal age prevalence is 30 to 39 years. The 87% of this group of women preferred exclusive breastfeeding, mixed feeding 11% and 2% use of formulas alone. The 42% showed excellent disposition to breast and advice, 50% showed good disposition and 8% showed bad disposition. Conclusion. The majority of mothers advised understand the need to be focused on breastfeeding and preferred over the use of milk formulas.REFERENCES
