ABSTRACT
There are several reports that support the association of Helicobacter
pylori (H. pylori) infection and hematologic disorders, including
idiopatic trombocitopenic purpura (ITP). For these reason, the
bacteria should be investigated and treated in patients with some of
these disorders without any other explanation, for example, in
patients with ITP and no improvement with corticosteroid and
Danazol therapy, the additional eradication of H. pylori with immunosuppressive
therapy improves the outcome than eradication
therapy alone. In ITP patients, it has been reported an improvement
of 50% in the platelet count after H. pylori eradication. Accordingly
to this, it is recommended to diagnostic testing for H. pylori in ITP
patients. Different platelet count outcomes have been reported
depending on bacteria strain.
