ABSTRACT
This research is a cultural historical analysis of different types of defects, especially the intellectual defect, using as a reference the approaches of L.S Vigotski contained in his book "The fundamentals of defectology" and in "The genesis of the higher mental functions". Seen from the historical cultural perspective, the bases of the psychic development are always social, hence the importance of the concepts zone of current development and zone of immediately subsequent development that allow working in the compensation and correction of the defect and understanding the necessary reference to the family as first socialization agent that determines the development of the personality in both common and mental retarded children. This approach is a theoretical reference to the Methodology of Community Corrective Processes (ProCC) created by Dra. Mirtha Cucco García, that is successfully used in Spain, Argentina, Cuba and other countries.REFERENCES
