ABSTRACT
The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between defence mechanisms and the personality disorders. Two hundred
forty-one subject answered two auto-applicable questionnaires: The Questionnaire of Defensive Styles of 40 items (DSQ - 40) and the
Questionnaire for the Disorders of Personality - 4 Plus (PDQ - 4 +) version. Multiple regression analysis pointed out that defenses that
predicted scores on the personality disorders of the groups A and B were the primitive, and defenses that predicted the scores of Group
C were the neurotic. The weight of the defenses in the variance of each group is variable, which indicates that their involvement in the
genesis of these disorders is also diverse.
