ABSTRACT
A model to identify gifted potential in elementary school students is validated in this study. Three hundred and ninety nine fourth- and sixth-graders answered the Task Commitment Scale, the Farrens Creativity Scale and the SAGES’s reasoning subtest. Their teachers answered the Nomination Teacher questionnaire. To validate this model, all the components were submitted to a lineal regression analysis using the stepwise method. Results showed through the Spearman correlation coefficient at a level of significance of 0.01 the prediction order of each variable. The model identified 7% of gifted students. Differences by sex and grade were also obtained. The model may be useful to identify gifted potential in Mexican population attending elementary school.
