ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the behavior of myoglobin as a diagnostic method in patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS), for these a prospective longitudinal descriptive study was developed with the patients that were attended at the «Calixto García» Hospital with diagnosis of acute coronary syndromes. The group was integrated by 45 patients: 29 with acute coronary syndromes and increased segment ST and 16 with acute coronary syndromes without increased segment ST. The age, sex and personal pathology antecedent of cardiovascular risk, were the variables related with the kinetic of cardiac marker. The statistic test for evaluate normality was realized by mean of the Shapiro-Wilks and Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests. For the single variable analysis was used the ANOVA and Student’s t Tests in the case of quantitative variable. For the qualitative variables or categorics, Chi square and Fisher exact tests were employed. The concordance was calculated by the Fleiss Kappa Index and diagnosis validity test. It was considered as a signification level p ≤ 0.05. The myoglobin had a sensitivity of 90.9% and specificity of 75% in the diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome during the first five hours after initiation of pain and it was found association between positives values of myoglobin and clinical variables in the prediction of fatal events in the acute coronary syndrome.
