ABSTRACT
Background: The incidence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) in recent years in Mexico has increased. However, there is little evidence of transmission through sexual intercourse, and especially the sexual pattern of cases.
Objective: To determine the sexual pattern of new cases of HCV between 2009-2010.
Material and methods: Cases were obtained from the special system of epidemiological surveillance of Mexican Social Security Institute, with frequency distributions of age, sex, Delegation, number of sexual partners (NPS), sex-related server(as), sex with more than one partner in the last year (RSM1PSUA) and sexual preference. It was an index to the average percentage of Delegation and sexual variables were grouped into quartiles. Analysis was by chi test Mantel-Haenszel.
Results: Were 1,639 cases, the overall average NPS was three, and men 4.3 and women 1.7. 87.2% claimed to be heterosexual. Men showed more frequently have RSM1PSUA and have sex with sex worker. After 50 years of age, where women represent 67.2% of cases with an OR: 2.98 (95%CI 2,372 to 3,751, p = ‹ 0.0000001). By delegation, the percentage with the average rate of reported sexual variables to be in the highest quartile the north.
Conclusions: The man most often presents a statement of unsafe sexual pattern and women as new case is detected after 50 years.
