ABSTRACT

The first case of Autoimmune Polyglandular Syndrome Type II (Schmidt Syndrome) diagnosed among 29,568 autopsies at the pathology unit of Hospital General de Mexico, in Mexico City is reported. A 18 years old woman with type I insulin dependent Diabetes Mellitus was admitted with hydroelectrolitic disorders and right basal pneumonia, she developed respiratory failure and died. The autopsy findings were grade II malnutrition, Hashimoto thyroiditis, lymphoid adrenalitis, ovarian atrophy and right pneumonia. Other endocrine glands were not affected.
