ABSTRACT
We describe the common bile duct calculi frequency and the different available therapeutic alternatives. From the non surgical point of view, we describe the techniques, their success rate and associated complications, as well as the main advantages for the conventional endoscopic cholangiopancreatography, the mechanical, electrohydraulic and laser lithotripsy; the utility of extracorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy, biliary stents placement and dissolution therapy with mono-octanoin are mentioned. In postoperative patient with a T tube in common bile duct, the radiological boarding is indicated. On the other hand, surgical alternatives includes laparoscopic techniques whose development offers an extensive exploration so effective as that of the open surgery. Finally, we discuss the election of some procedure depending on factors like age, sex, etc.
