ABSTRACT
A descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in 25 patients with terminal
chronic renal failure treated with hemodial
ysis in "Dr. Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso"
General Teaching Hospital of Santiago de Cu
ba during 2006 in order to characterize
the incidence of hepatitis C virus. Transfus
ions in males (65.4 %), those who suffered
from the disease for more than five years an
d those that had been transfused in more
than 10 times prevailed in the case ma
terial. There was a higher number of
transfusions in patients who had more time on hemodyalisis. It is concluded that this
virus has a high incidence in
patients polytransfused.
