ABSTRACT
Introduction. Knowledge of a population about the brain death can allow positive attitudes toward the organs donation after the deat h.
Methods. 200 people, 45.5% masculine sex and 54.5% femenine sex were interviewed, with an half age 45.11 years old. The attitude toward the donation of organs after the death of a relative or own was determined. The knowledge about the brain death was e valuated by means of the question: Does it exist some possibility that a person with brain death can recover and to live?
Results. 81% of those interviewed would donate its organs and 66% those of a relative. 40% of those interviewed knew the concept of br ain death. In the negative group to the personal donation a prevalence existed in the group without knowledge of the brain death (28 vs 10, p=0.056), the same as in the negative group to the family donation (39 vs 29, p=0.583).
Conclusions. To develop education strategies about the brain death can act in a positive way in the favorable attitude toward the organs donation.
