ABSTRACT
This study aims to investigate the relationship between personality from the five factors model and resilience in a sample of adult volunteers from the city of Toluca. The sample consisted of 74 participants, of both sexes between 24 and 59 years of age. They used two instruments. Resilience Questionnaire (González Arratia, 2011) and the personality inventory NEO PI-R (Costa and McCrae, 2008). Acoording to scores on inventory for the entire sample showed a high score on neuroticism (N), low in extraversion (E), openness to experience (O) and conscientiousness (C) and very low in agreeableness (A). According to the resilience total score were divided into low, moderate and high which found that the group classified with resilience scores presented in greater anxiety, hostility, depression and impulsivity (neuroticism factor). The Pearson correlation analysis showed that the total score for resilience was negatively related to neuroticism factor of personality. Regarding the variable age and gender were not significant differences in the variables studied. By stepwise regression analysis it was found that the factor neuroticism and openness are the factors that contribute to the explanation of resilience by 31.7% on all other factors were not predictors of resilience. These results agree that it is a vulnerable personality profile characterized by high neuroticism. We recommend further research in an extended sample, which will give more light to the study of resilience in adults.
