ABSTRACT
Introduction:
Supracondylar humerus fracture remains the most frequent elbow fracture in pediatric patients. Currently, treatment consists of closed
reduction and percutaneous fixation, while it remains in controversy the placement of crossed vs. lateral wire fixations.
Material and Methods:
Patients diagnosed with supracondylar humerus fracture Gartland III, admitted in the pediatric Orthopedics Department in Fray Antonio
Alcalde hospital in Guadalajara were included in the study.
Results:
A total of 89 patients were included in the study, of which 25 were managed using lateral wire fixation and 64 with crossed wire fixation.
Four patients presented ulnar nerve injury after crossed wire fixation, while none of the patients with lateral fixation presented this
complication.
Discussion:
There is a great prevalence of ulnar nerve injury (6%) after crossed wire fixation, in contrast lateral wire fixation shows no risk of injury and
brings stability to enhance the reduction of the fracture.
