ABSTRACT
Male newborn, 37 weeks gestational age, in who prenatal diagnosis of hydronephrosis was established through sonogram.
Physical examination shows abdominal mass in right flank. Sonogram and CAT scan showed right kidney tumor. A
nephrectomy was performed and congenital mesoblasticnephroma diagnosed through anatomopathological study. The
patient showed good progress, and did not present evidence of local or metastatic recurrence after a 6 month follow – up. We
underline the importance of prenatal diagnosis and a through physical examination, which in this case allowed the patient the
possibility of a single surgical procedure with any added treatment. Congenital Mesoblastic Nephroma (CMN) is the most
common diagnosed tumor in newborns. It represents 28% of all renal tumors in children. The mean age of diagnosis is 2
months. CMN behaves as a benign tumor, but has a tendency to infiltrate renal capsule, which can lead to a 20% of cases of local
recurrence. Treatment is surgical, and includes a wide margin of pre renal resection.
