ABSTRACT
This is a review paper about a common, everyday and budersome problem that concerns both the pediatrician and the general practitioner that treats children. The vast majority of physicians consider this as a minor condition that needs no special attention and the few papers that are occasionally published in scientific journals seems to prove it. The mother’s perception is completely different. They feel that their infant’s colic pain is certainly a real and alarming condition and call for strong therapeutic measures that sometimes could eventually cause even more harm than good. We present in these lines a brief historical review together with some of the latest discoveries in this ancient condition.
