ABSTRACT
The hepatocyte grow factor (HGF) plays a major role in liver repair and regeneration during organ injury. HGF is produced in the liver, by non-parenchymal cells, such stellate cells, sinusoidal endothelial, Kupffer and immune cells. Among the multiple biological functions targeted by HGF is important to emphasize cell proliferation, survival, morphogenesis, among others. Our group has characterized the HGF antioxidant response, function relevant in the alcoholic liver disease. The hepatic protection exerted by HGF is multifactorial. It has been observed that regulates transcriptionally some of the microsomal ethanol oxidizing system components, and this regulation represents the first frontline of defense, while the second level of protection is driven by the expression of antioxidants, survival and repair proteins.
