ABSTRACT
Bezoars are collections of ingested materials accumulated in the stomach or small bowel. Depending on their components, they are classified in: trichobezoars (most frequent), formed by hair, there are observed in adolescents with psychological disorders; second in frequency are fitobezoars, which are composed by vegetal fibers (celery, grape, coconut, etcetera), and occur in adult patients with previous history of abdominal surgery.
Case presentation: A 17 year-old female patient with an abdominal complaint of one week, with a previous history of 9 kilogram weight-loss in a four-month period. Physical examination: an epigastric painless movable mass was palpated, with an approximate size of 10 x 8 cm. An exploratory laparotomy was performed and two gastric and one small intestine trichobezoars were extracted. The psychiatric evaluation resumited in the diagnosis of trichotilomary and generalized anxiety disorder.
Conclusions: Trichobezoars is and infrequent disorder, with scarce case reports. These are usually single. We found no reports of cases as the one we report. Treatment consists on surgery, psychiatric treatment should continue until adult age, to prevent recurrence.
