ABSTRACT
Every day is more common that people, particularly young people, muddle up the meaning between sadness and depression to indicate that somebody goes through by a confused and painful stage into his thinking or his behavior, which is just a sadness incident; while suffering depression - even though includes a sadness incident-, is something much more complex that requires to be diagnosed as such illness, that at least a couple of weeks the patient has certain symptoms and signs clearly identified and besides it observes a disorder into the neurotransmitters. In this essay the concept of sadness will be discussed compared with the concept of depression, and how from their beginning till their operation, they function on a different way over the individual. Sadness as affliction, is a feeling absolutely natural, as other basic feelings that human being has, who moves (emotions) by the influence of his feelings and thoughts. On the other hand, depression is originated by externals factors, as any traumatic experience, included sadness, as well as for internal factors, which means a disorder into the neurotransmitters, causing alteration, particularly in the production of dopamine, noradrenaline and serotonin. It is concluded that it’s really important to do not use these concepts both alike; which obeys to the fact that actually exists high levels of depression into the society, which requires medical and psychological care. As the World Health Organization indicates, less than 30% and in some countries less than 10% of the people who suffer depression receives an effective treatment. The WHO estimates that nowadays 350 million people around the world suffer depression or any other mental disorder. If the concept of depression is confused, as it seems is happening, it will be considered as an inherent part of our society and not as a clinical event, having the high risk that his effects will not be evaluated neither his clinical attentions and treatment required.
