ABSTRACT
Objective: The aim of this study
is to estimate the cardiovascular
risk in a ten year period, in
a specific population from
Ciudad Quesada, San Carlos;
and describe this population
according to Framingham Risk
Scoring, based on the presence
of risk factors that could be
associated to cardiovascular
disease.
Methods: The following is
a transversal study of 204
patients, ages between 30-80
years old, from the medical
consult of Ciudad Quesada. In
which the last laboratory results
during 2008-2009 were reviewed
and analyzed in association with
other factors determined in
Framingham Risk Scoring.
Results: Based on Framingham
Risk Scoring, 27% of our patients
were classified as having low
risk for cardiovascular disease;
and the other 73% classified as
having moderate/high risk for
cardiovascular disease in a ten
year period. The prevalence
for high cardiovascular risk
in a 10 000 population is 38.8.
Active smoking, high blood
pressure disease and Diabetes
Mellitus are associated to high
cardiovascular risk.
Conclusions: Our application of
the Framingham Risk Scoring
showed that in the population
studied in Ciudad Quesada, San
Carlos exist a high prevalence
of cardiovascular disease that
could imply a greater amount
of cases and complication of the
disease in this population.
