ABSTRACT
Paraphimosis is a urological
emergency produced by the
inflammation and swelling of
the foreskin of the penis, which
prevents the lining of the glans
after their forced retraction
that produces a constriction or
strangulation of the glans by
a ring of the foreskin that has
been retracted, with a risk of
necrosis of the glans, which can
lead to its loss. It is relatively
frequent in adults with
urinary catheterisation and in
children after their first penile
manipulation. Inflammatory
changes progress in the portion
retained under pressure (glans)
and wont cease until its manual
or surgical reduction. The
maneuver of reversal is a quick
method that can be performed
in the emergency medical
service and must be known by
the general practitioners to
provide relief and prevent penile
complications if it is performed
in time.
