ABSTRACT
This research was mainly aimed at describing the possible perception of health and working conditions in a group of HIV carriers. It was carried out a descriptive cross sectional study by a non-probabilistic sample. Within the selection process, it was included VIH carriers who attended consultations between January and December 2010. The sample was made up with 102 subjects. The average age was 36.8 years old; the school median was 10 degrees and the year median since they were diagnosed with HIV was 5 years. The chosen participants were explained the objectives, procedures and study assignments and were also requested authorization to be included in the process. They were assessed with a survey about health and work conditions (Román, 2001). The perception results of working conditions and health show that this group is seldom exposed to potentially harmful labor factors; it is about a group satisfied with their work, which were hardly ever in touch with accident risks. They are surrounded by adequate safety measures and their perceptions about the physical working environment is far from being damaging for their lives or health. The workplaces fulfill, mostly, with the legislations which reject the stigma of workers not being asked for HIV tests or other medical-related analysis. The health self-assessments were quite favorable. In order to go deeper into the conceptual frame in a better understanding of the interrelation among work risk factors and HIV carriers’ health, it will be highly important to apply mixed methods integrating both quantitative and qualitative investigation.
