ABSTRACT
Histiocytic sarcoma is defined by the WHO as a malignant proliferation of cells showing morphologic and immunophenotypic features of
mature tissue histiocytes. Case report: A 37-year-old male who presented weight loss and diarrhea of six months duration. The ultrasound
study showed a splenic tumor. Therefore, the spleen was removed. At microscopic examination a pleomorphic cellular proliferation was
observed with spindle-shaped areas arranged in bundles and areas of solid growth. The inmunohistochemistry study was positive for
CD68, CD4, lysozyme, alfa 1 antitrypsin and vimentin. Histiocytic sarcoma represents less than 1% of all tumors affecting the lymph nodes
and soft tissues. Being very rare in splenic location, its etiology is unknown. It is manifested as unique tumors associated with systemic
symptoms and the prognosis is grim.
