ABSTRACT
Introduction: Hip osteoarthritis is one of the most debilitating pathology from of the motor system. Its surgical procedure via total arthroplasty of the hip creates an important economic influx. Hanging hip operation and viscosuplementation provide a therapeutic alternative to those patients for whom prosthesis functions are not recommended due to their physical activity.
Objective: To determine the clinical outcome of the hanging hip operation unattached of the hip and viscosuplementation of the hip.
Design: Retroactive, longitudinal, descriptive, cause & effect,
observational. Locations: Hospital of Trauma and Orthopedics Lomas Verdes, Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social.
Proof: Six female patients with a coxartrosis condition of hanging hip operation and viscosuplementation unattached of the hip and between August 1999 and August 2001.
Results: The clinical evaluation of the hip according to Harris classification
reported 33.3% of the results were satisfactories, and less favorable results were reported in 66.6 %. The pain associated with patients of less favorable results can be moderately controlled with medication.
Discussion: Hanging hip operation and viscosuplementation is a surgical
procedure with poors clinical outcome.
Conclusions: Hanging hip operation and viscosuplementation is not a therapeutical management for those patients with hiposteoarthritis.
