ABSTRACT
The symptoms of attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have been linked to deficits in executive function. Consequently, the objective of the study was to determine differences in evaluation of executive functions and intelligence quotient (IQ) of a group of 28 children with ADHD and 28 children without ADHD, all of this children living (residents of) in Mexico City between 6 and 15 years using the WISC-R intelligence scales. Applying student t test (p=0.05), were found significant differences in the following subscales, keys, design with cubes, management of drawing, Executive IQ and Total IQ, that is, deficits into sustained attention, planning-anticipation, analysis-synthesis and lower performance on tasks executive with impact in IQ total of group ADHD. Thus, the WISC-R scales detected deficits in the executive function linked to primary symptoms of ADHD, being useful in clinical diagnosis. In addition, the classification of IQ in ranges below the average is indicator to discard ADHD.
