ABSTRACT
This work was carried out in Junior High School students from Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico, and aimed to explore the existence of significant differences in levels of global self-concept and its dimensions (academic, social, emotional, family and physical) between public and private schools students and between genders. Students were evaluated with Questionnaire AF5, Autoconcepto Forma 5 (Garcia and Musitu, 2001). Statistical analysis was developed in three stages: Analysis for evaluating the reliability and validity of the applied scale, descriptive analysis of the studied variables and the analysis of variance to contrast the given hypotheses. The obtained results indicated that the general students’ scores of self-concept and its dimensions were higher in the private schools in relation to the public ones, and in male ompared to the female gender, except academically. However, significant differences only appeared in the physical self-concept of the students.
