Surgical management of an adult patient with cerebrospinal fluid otorhinorrhea associated to Mondini dysplasia

ABSTRACT

We described the case of a female patient with paradoxical and later rinorraquia and cerebrospinal fluid otorrhea associated to Mondini dysplasia and her surgical resolution. Through tympanostomy, we found a defect of approximately 7 to 10 mm. We repaired it with temporal muscle, fascia, bone pate and tissue glue by primary closure. Mondini malformation should be considered in adult patients with spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid otorhinorrhea. Computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and testing of beta 2 transferrin should confirm diagnosis. The closure through a posterior tympanotomy is an appropriate approach for this disease.
