ABSTRACT
The double aortic arch occurs when the ascending aorta splits into two arcs, one right rear and left hand above, these vascular structures surround and compress the esophagus, trachea or both, which causes stridor and/or dysphagia, dyspnea and recurrent respiratory tract infections, although some patients can be asymptomatic. This paper reports the case of a 4-year-old female patient who had dysphagia from birth, which was increasing with feeding solids as well as recurrent infections of upper respiratory tract. Study protocol began and it finished with diagnosis of complete vascular ring (double aortic arch). It was performed section and suture of the posterior arch with the release of the esophagus and trachea. In the midterm follow-up, the patient was asymptomatic. The surgery for complete vascular rings (double aortic arch) is carried on when it causes symptoms, when patients do not respond to conservative treatment as well as when there are evidence of laryngotracheomalacia.
