ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to evaluate in adolescents without sexual experience, the effects of an intervention program designed under the Information, Motivation and Behavioral skills model (Fisher, J. y Fisher, W., 1992). We used a pretestposttest experimental design with an intervention and control groups. 544 students with a mean age of 13.9 years participated in the study, 65.3% were enrolled in secondary school and 34.71% in high school. The variables assessed were knowledge about HIV/AIDS and other STIs (information component), beliefs, attitudes, subjective norm, self-efficacy for condom use, self-efficacy for delaying an unprotected sexual encounter, intending to have sex and intention to use condoms in next sex (motivational component), sexual communication with parents and ability to properly use condoms (behavioral component). We found a positive effect of the intervention program on self-efficacy to postpone sexual encounters, attitudes toward condom use, sexual communication with parents and the ability to correctly use a condom. In the follow up performed 10 months after the intervention, we found that the program had no impact on the initiation of sex and remained the intention of condom use.
