ABSTRACT
Through the Milan model treatment was given to a family with a distant mother in the rehabilitation process of her children. The initial patient was referred to the center for neuromuscular rehabilitation; his half brother was referred after. A circular hypothesis was established: “If the mother is distant or shows little commitment, the grandmother will assume the role of mother”. The therapeutic work emphasized the identification of the grandmother´s suffering in her family background and her choice of couple used to generate empathy toward her daughter, this revealed covered conflicts used to promote the abandon of mother´s role in the daughter, generating her own sacrifice in order to the grandma be the mother. Some of the techniques used were positive connotation, circular questioning and division of subsystems with emphasis in identification of suffering, empathy and pattern interruption. At present current results have revealed undercover conflicts and family secrets favoring the recognition of grandmother´s and daughter´s own suffering, improving the link between the son and his mother and supporting the full rehabilitation process of the patient.
