ABSTRACT
We determine if an intense emotional response is characteristic of overweight children before to pictures of food high and low in fat. The emotional response was assessed by recording the emotional facial expression through the technique of Facial Electromyography (EMG-Facial) and self reports of emotional valence and arousal with the Self Assessment Manikin (SAM). Participants included 17 infants with overweight and 15 with an average weight (mean age = 10 years) of the D.F. and metropolitan area of Mexico City. We detected a statistically significant difference in EMGFacial between the groups, meeting a lower level of facial expression in the overweight group. There was no other significant difference between the groups. Evidence provided indicating that overweight children do not show discrimination between the pictures presented according to the level of fat of food, in addition, provided evidence indicating that the normal intake process is accompanied by a positive affective valence and high level arousals in children with average weight.
