ABSTRACT
A descriptive and observational study of the 162 neonates and infants under one year, born in any date of the period from March, 2010 to the same month of 2011 who were assisted by the members of the Work Basic Group No. 1 of "Frank País García" Polyclinic from Santiago de Cuba was carried out, with the aim of identifying the risk factors that could be influencing on their health. Low birth weight at birth and cesarean sections due to dystocias as biological factors, and co-bed as social aspect prevailed in the newborn and under 3 months infants; however, in the infants with ages of 4 months to one year, nutritional risks were more frequent: anemia and early breastfeeding cessation using the artificial feeding, although the presence of repeated breathing disorders was also observed in a considerable number of members of this age group.
