ABSTRACT
Cone snails (
Conus) are marine gastropods that use
venom as the major weapon for prey capture. Their
venoms are composed by a vast number of specialized
toxins that selectively target particular receptors and ion
channels; among others, the nicotinic acetylcholine
receptors. Studies of conotoxins (α-conotoxins) have
been useful for understanding the physiological role of
these receptors.
