ABSTRACT
Introduction: The DAS28 (Disease Activity Score 28-joint counts), has been used extensively in clinical research to quantify the activity and the evolution of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Today is considered desirable a greater involvement of the patient in the assessment and monitoring of the course of his own illness.
Objective: Determine the degree of correlation between the rate of disease activity evaluated by the self-patient (auto-DAS28) and the obtained by physician (DAS28).
Material and methods: Included 110 patients with RA, at the time of the consultation, the physician and patient made registration of painful and swelling joints, and the patient the overall evaluation scale (OES), subsequently was determined the corresponding indexes and statistical analysis took place.
Results: The average auto-DAS28 resulted from 4.20 (1.47-7.14) ± 1.21, compared to 3.61 (1.47-5.96) ± 1.11, for DAS28, with Spearman correlation of r0.773 and Pearson r0.776, which showed no significant differences.
Conclusions: The self-assessment of the patient, provided slightly higher auto-DAS28 values than those obtained by the physician in DAS28; however, remained a good correlation between the two, so it could be an alternative for routine use in the waiting room, previous patient training.
