ABSTRACT
Objective: Evaluation of quality of life of patients with kidney or liver transplants in the Hospital Angeles del Pedregal and in the Hospital Angeles Mocel in recent years.
Material and methods: This is a descriptive-correlation study, conducted to asses the extent, magnitude and direction of the relation between one or more variables of liver and renal transplant patients after answering a structured interview previously assessed document or questionnaire, which included a scale format. Data were analyzed based on categories defined from the theoretical foundation and application of statistical tests and clinical staging in the Karnofsky questionnaire to asses functionality.
Results: There was demonstration that liver and kidney transplantation improves quality of life of patients undergoing these procedures. That is because transplant patients are usually with replacement therapy (hemodialysis) or severe liver failure, affecting quality of life always lowered by illness or treatment. This correlates significantly with increasing independence and ability to work and therefore integration of the patient to family, work and social activity.
Conclusions: Patients and their families believe that transplantation changed their health, helping substantially to improve the quality of life.
