ABSTRACT
Genital cosmetic surgery has been used to solve the normal anatomic variations that result in aesthetic and functional problems for many women, but carries risks that are unproven psychological or functional benefits, the awareness of this is necessary to evaluate other solutions than the surgery to recognize women's concerns about their appearance, psychological support and only consider as a last resort, surgery is not the first thing prompted.
Women seek surgery for their normal genital surgery is promoted as an effective treatment for your inconvenience, but there are no prospective randomized studies or controlled although most reported high levels of satisfaction, nor clinical practice guidelines exist for these procedures with great current demand.
Responsibility for decision making and research on this surgery is in the agencies and health groups, educational institutions, voluntary sector and the media, national standards are needed, innovative interventions to help women with skill and imagination on appearance of their genitals and help cope with their feelings of insecurity.
