ABSTRACT

We present a new method and its application for teaching and research in endoscopic microsurgery developed at the Surgical research laboratory Karl Storz-Brimex II at The ABC Medical Center; this technique permit a microendoscopic access to different plains in the neck of the rat, making possible a diversity of surgical procedures. We considered the rat as a good experimental tool because of its low cost, ease of handling and its high tolerance to surgical trauma. Our original proposal “The rat as an ideal model for teaching and research in laparoscopic microsurgery”, it is reinforced with the present work, since we demonstrated the factibility to approach other anatomic zones (for example the neck), with the transformation of a virtual space into a real space, different surgical procedures are possible. The practice of endoscopic microsurgery in its different ways using the rat model offers surgical technique refinement to whom it exercises it.
