ABSTRACT
Polycystic ovary syndrome is the most common endocrinopathy in women, has also been associated with 75% of cases with anovulatory infertility. It was known in 1935 as “Stein-Leventhal syndrome,” because these researchers described for the first time the association between amenorrhea and polycystic ovaries. Currently, there are two trends in the diagnosis of PCOS, the proposal of the National Institute of Health (NIH) established since 1990 and the Rotterdam criteria, created in 2003.
