ABSTRACT
Abdominal ectopic pregnancy is extremely rare and represents only 1% of all ectopic pregnancies. The gestational sac of an abdominal pregnancy is usually implanted in the pelvis or in highly vascular areas –such as liver, spleen and mesentery– and morbidity and mortality of abdominal pregnancy can be high. The maternal mortality risk of an abdominal ectopic pregnancy is seven to eight times greater than the risk of a tubal ectopic pregnancy and is 90 times greater than the risk of intrauterine pregnancy. Given the rarity of abdominal ectopic pregnancy and the mortality associated with it, the diagnostic suspicion and early treatment are decisive. This paper reports the case of a primary abdominal ectopic pregnancy implanted in the base of the uterosacral ligaments, the diagnostic suspicion was confirmed by ultrasound evaluation of pelvis and laparoscopic surgical management was successful.
