ABSTRACT
The prevalence of asthma varies in every country. Clearly, this is the most common chronic disease in pediatrics. The purpose of this research is to know the opinion of the parents in relation to medical attention given to patients with asthma and to know the lack of attachments or commitment of the patients to the medical attention.
Material and methods: We conducted a cross-clinical study of children of both sexes, between the ages of six months trough fifteen years with diagnosis of asthma at a Second Level Attention Pediatric Hospital from the Health Department of Mexico City.
Results: Most patients are from the Southwest region of Mexico City. Their parents had an elementary level of studies. The first contact physician who attended these patients did not achieved the proper diagnosis of asthma or did not communicate properly with easy understanding to the parents; therefore, parents concluded that the medication was ineffective, due to an inappropriate communication with the patient. Patients showed a nomad tendency because they did not notice any improvement of the symptoms of the disease, the elevated price of the medication and the extremely saturated public health services specialized in this area.
Conclusions: There must be a better training for physicians to provide accurate diagnosis of this disease, accordingly to the various guidelines and to make the appropriate reference to de Allergy specialist or Pediatric Pneumologist in those patients with difficult control.
