ABSTRACT
Background: Lead exposure is a public health problem which requires reliable laboratories capable of measuring personal exposure as blood lead levels.
Objective: This report show the quality control program of one lead laboratory in Mexico City. This laboratory is member of the international quality control program.
Method: Descriptive study that compares blood lead levels results performed from 1993 to 1997 by a Mexican laboratory vis a vis two laboratories of reference.
Results: The correlation value with the first laboratory was 0.98 (p ‹ 0.05), the correlation with the second lab was 0.89 (p ‹ 0.05).
Conclusion: The laboratory for blood lead levels at the ABC Medical Center has a high precision and is mostly accurate to measure blood lead levels in Mexico.
