ABSTRACT
Thromboangiitis Obliterans or Buerger’s Disease is an inflammatory non atherosclerotic segmental and occlusive disease affecting small and medium sized arteries and veins, mostly in the vascular territories below the elbow and knee. Its development and progression has a strong relationship with tobacco use and it manifests itself as an endarteritis with thrombosis and recanalization of the affected vessels producing peripheral ischemia, superficial thrombophlebitis and Raynaud’s phenomenon. Smoking cessation is the only form of treatment with proven efficacy to stop the progression of the disease.
