ABSTRACT
Preeclampsia is considered one of the main causes of perinatal mortality and morbidity. It conditions prematurity, low weighting birth and an increasing perinatal death rate, becoming a high death risk for the mother. It complicates from 5% to 7% of pregnancy. It mainly occurs in nulliparous women, but it has a second raising period in nulliparous women above 35 years old. This patology affects the lungs, liver, kidneys, eyes and brain. Its etiology, is unknown nowadays despite the existing theories, being the most accepted the theory about the superficial invasion of the cytotrophoblast in the blood vessel spirals during the placenta formation, giving as a result the preservation of the elastic muscle fibers in the artery and its capacity to respond to different vasoconstrictive agents, anon existing situation in normal pregnancy. The diagnosis is done based mainly on clinic and laboratory data. About the treatment, the inmmediate birth of the child is highly reccommended for the mother, eventhough, in some cases this is not the best option for the baby, this is why the appropriate measures to take in pre-eclampisa cases should be individualized.
