ABSTRACT
Introduction: The Study of Strategic Planning SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) type allows knowing the current situation of a group, enterprise, organization or institution. Through the SWOT criteria analysis is possible to obtain assistance in the decision-making process according to the institution’s objectives and politics. Objective: Establish the mission, vision and values of the Medical Staff at the ABC Medical Center. Identify SWOT criteria of the medical staff as well as their influence on the institution´s operational capacity to achieve the laid down objectives. Formulate a strategy to combat its weaknesses and increase its strengths. Methods: A total of 75 physicians formulated and expressed their expert opinion as leaders in their expertise medical fields regarding what they consider strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats for the institution. This analysis was guided by a designated coordinator towards round tables of five experts, followed by a general critical discussion with the purpose of obtaining a conclusion. Results: The ABC Medical Center mission, vision and values were revised and reestablished, and SWOT criteria were delineated. Based on this information, a strategy to solve the detected problems was established, including a specific designation of leading physicians to carry out the actions within a time frame and a deadline to report results and findings. Conclusions: SWOT Strategic Planning study showed a great utility in directing the work efforts of the physician leaders at the ABC Medical Center in order to create a strategy to achieve their objectives in providing a high quality medical care, according to its solid tradition.REFERENCES
