ABSTRACT
Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine the ethiological agent that produces acute bacterial sinusitis in patients that live in Mexico City from November 1999 to June 2000.
Design: Prospective, open, experimental and transversal study. We culture the secretions that were obtained with a sterile aspirator (with guard) endoscopically directed from the middle meatus.
Results: 29% of the cultures were negative. Positive cultures showed
Moraxella as the most common bacterial agent followed by
H Influenzae.
Conclusions: The isolated bacteria’s in this study differ with those reported in other medical literature.
