ABSTRACT
Intraarticular hyaluronic, acid (HA) injection is known as Viscosupplementation and it is considered a therapeutic alternative in non-operative management of osteoarthritis. Viscoelasticity and lubrication of synovial fluid are properties given primarily by HA. HA plays an important role in joint homeostasis by acting as a buffer for the transmission of loads absorbing loads on the articular surface. In OA its molecular weight and concentration are reduced. This has lead to consider the application of HA intra articularly could restore normal parameters and thereby restore joint homeostasis. Under this argument in recent years has spread its use as an alternative in the symptomatic management of osteoarthritis pain relief and improved joint function mainly in OA of the knee. Although many clinical studies report good results in the symptomatic control of OA, the consensus believes that these are not scientifically conclusive and need to do more controlled clinical trials to demonstrate efficacy in the treatment of OA.REFERENCES
