Perception of social support for patient with alcoholic illness in recovery phase

ABSTRACT
The excessive consumption of alcohol generates a chronic illness that one manifests for its continuous search, its compulsive use and the gradual loss of the nets of social support of the one affected. This is a descriptive investigation of traverse court in which we intended to describe the characteristics of the social support perceived by alcoholic patients integrated to the ambulatory psychotherapy groups of the Psychiatric Hospital of Havana.. The selection of the 20 evaluated cases was determined in correspondence with the execution of the defined inclusion approaches for the study and the readiness of time for the realization of the investigation. For the collection of the information the Questionnaire of Social Support in Alcoholic Patients was used. Values means were obtained as for perception of social support. With relationship to the perception of the three evaluated types of social support differences were verified. The perception of emotional support was relatively low. In the perception of instrumental support a prevalence of the low range was verified and in the perception of support of the treatment they reached values means. In general they emitted favourable approaches about the assistance existent devices, of the family attitudes of help and of the adherence to the suitable treatment. The evaluated patients perceive an acceptable level of social support in general and of support to the treatment in specific. It favours it their recovery in general sense. Nevertheless they have not been able to strengthen their affective relationship neither their credibility with their possible suppliers of emotional and instrumental support.
